China lowers anti-dumping duties on Canadian rapeseed Beijing, Feb 28 (AFP) Feb 28, 2026 China has reduced anti-dumping duties on rapeseed imported from Canada to 5.9 percent, Beijing's commerce ministry announced Saturday, following a trade deal reached last month. The lower rate, down from a 75.8-percent levy imposed in August, comes into force on Sunday and would remain in effect for five years, the commerce ministry said in a statement. Some fees paid between August 14 and December 13 will be refunded, it added. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney secured what he called a "landmark trade agreement" following January talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. China was expected to reduce tariffs on Canadian canola seed -- a variety of rapeseed -- to "a combined rate of approximately 15 percent", Carney's office had said after his visit. It added that it also expected Canadian canola meal, lobsters, crabs and peas to receive a tariff reprieve from March "until at least the end of this year". On Friday, Beijing's commerce ministry said it would temporarily lower some tariffs on Canadian goods from Sunday to December 31, without specifying the imports involved. |
