EU to scrap Chinese arms embargo?

The Spanish EU presidency is considering lifting the arms embargo on China. Spain's Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said his government, in charge of the rotating six-month EU presidency, was weighing "the pros and cons" of lifting the ban. The EU is eager "to improve relations with China to ensure the best possible dialogue," he said. "We are all aware of the new role which China is assuming in the world." Beijing is trying to prevent the German wind industry from entering the booming Chinese market, industry representatives said Wednesday in Berlin. China took one step forward in its ambition to build an independent global navigation network capable of rivaling foreign congeneric systems with the successful launch of a new orbiter into space early Sunday morning.
