An unidentified country is the Asia-Pacific region is boosting its airborne tactical capabilities through the acquisition of an ISTAR system from Elbit Systems.
The Israeli company said the contract for its intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance, or ISTAR, missions is worth $50 million and the solution will be delivered over a three-year period.
"We are proud of this contract award that attests to our ability to deliver world leading solutions which meet current and future intelligence needs," said Elbit Systems' President and Chief Executive Officer Bezhalel "Butzi" Machlis.
"By combining multiple sensors, advanced C4I and intelligence analysis systems, all into one integrated solution, we enable customers to carry out more effective and flexible ISTAR operations. There is a growing demand for this sort of solution, and we hope that this project, which marks a significant milestone for us, will lead to more orders from new and existing customers in the near future."
Elbit said the advanced SAR/GMTI Reconnaissance systems being provided will supplement and upgrade the country's already-deployed, long-range electro-optical cameras and sensors, enabling advanced functions such as mission planning, battlefield management, terrain analysis and simulation modeling, both before and during intelligence-gathering operations.
The new systems are produced by company subsidiary Elta Systems Ltd.
