General Dynamics has received a U.S. Navy contract modification to improve high-frequency communications for the service's AN/USC-61(C) digital modular radios, the company announced Thursday.
The 3G high-frequency 3rd Generation Automatic Link Establishment increases transmission rates from radio to radio by 24 percent while reducing static and other noises that hinder clear voice communications, General Dynamics said in a statement.
It also improves communications among U.S. and allied forces and can supplement satellite communication networks when those systems are overloaded or unavailable.
The digital modular radios are a critical communications hub for Navy vessels and submarines.
