US seeks China transparency in Xinjiang trials

The United States on Thursday urged China to be more transparent in its trials in the Xinjiang region as courts handed down more death sentences over last year's deadly ethnic unrest. The State Department voiced disappointment that China did not agree to US requests to observe the court proceedings. Chinese-led group formally signs Iraq oil deal

A consortium led by oil giant PetroChina has formally signed a 20-year deal with Iraq to develop the Halfaya oil field, as China boost its presence in the crude-rich region. The United States said Thursday that Google's problems in China with cyberattacks could deter US companies from investing in the Asian economic powerhouse amid rising trade tensions.
