Two people were killed in an explosion at a chemical plant in China's northwest province of Gansu belonging to energy giant CNPC on Thursday, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The biggest European carmaker, Volkswagen, said on Thursday that Chinese sales hit a record 1.4 million vehicles in 2009 in what is now its most important market.
