US seeks China transparency in Xinjiang trials

The United States on Thursday urged China to be more transparent in its trials in the Xinjiang region as courts handed down more death sentences over last year's deadly ethnic unrest. The State Department voiced disappointment that China did not agree to US requests to observe the court proceedings. The United States made an initial decision Wednesday to slap stiff duties - as high as 175 percent - on woven electric blankets from China on claims they were being dumped at unfairly low prices. China launches orbiter for navigation system: state media

China launched an orbiter into space early Sunday, the latest stage in the development of its own satellite navigation system, state media said. The orbiter, launched at about 00:12 am (1612 GMT Saturday) was the third orbiter that China has launched for its Beidou Navigation System, Xinhua news agency said.
